Indecision ’08 ed. Democralypse now or Republigeddon? – Take your pick.

How right-wing crap polluted Democrats’ political waters @ Ornicus:

That’s how right-wing crap works. It’s not meant to advance or even partake of discourse; it’s meant to end it. One can argue the worth of Hillary’s policies or her voting record or her position on the war till the cows come home; but when she’s reduced to being a bitch, that pretty much ends the discussion. And when it’s as pervasive as it’s become in the past decade, its effects are paralyzingly toxic.

And it’s important to remember that the same holds true regarding right-wing attitudes about a black man like Obama winning the White House. The most polite versions of right-wing cant hold that Obama’s not experienced enough to be president, but the underlying drumbeat of this meme has been all about his foreign-sounding name or his supposed Muslim ties or his “weakness” on national security … about his being a black man.

For the Record: Follow-Up @ Shakespeare’s Sister:

The post was not about Clinton losing. In fact, it wasn’t really about the election at all, per se, except insomuch as Clinton’s candidacy served as a big fat target for public misogyny. That’s why it’s really, really, really not about Clinton supporters being sad that Clinton lost, or even about Clinton supporters at all. It was about the women specifically (and feminists/womanists generally) who had seen this spectacular display of Misogyny: Unleashed! and, irrespective of whom they were supporting, were upset at how the primary had played out with regard to sexism.

As Clinton’s bid ends, sexism debate will not @ Reuters:

Debate is inevitable as long as some hear sexism and others don’t hear it at all, said Elizabeth Ossoff, professor of political psychology at St. Anselm College in New Hampshire.

Consider the incident when hecklers interrupted Clinton with shouts and signs reading “Iron My Shirt,” she said.

“What if someone raised a sign reading, ‘Shine my Shoes’ with Obama speaking? We all know that’s not OK,” Ossoff said.

“When somebody says ‘Iron My Shirt,’ there’s an element that it’s not OK but there’s an element that it’s kind of funny.

“People are comfortable with sexism and accept it,” she said.

If MSNBC is really “leaning left,” why does Chris Matthews keep saying African-Americans aren’t “regular people”? @ Media Matters:

One of the defining characteristics of MSNBC’s political coverage is mockery and ridicule of progressives. Hillary Clinton was the target of a great deal of this, but so were Al Gore (as Bob Somerby has extensively documented) and John Kerry and Bill Clinton and others. And Barack Obama has received such treatment from MSNBC personalities in the past and will only face more now that he is the presumptive Democratic nominee.

Given how frequently he invokes what he describes as Obama’s inability to connect with “regular people,” one can only assume Matthews must give the topic great consideration while lounging at the pool of his multimillion dollar Nantucket vacation home.

Send a Thank You Card to Hillary Clinton! @ NOW:

NOW President Kim Gandy wrote:

“Hillary, you have made a mark on history for eternity, giving little girls and little boys the full knowledge that women can compete, take risks, take the heat, make hard decisions, and be strong leaders. Whether you are President, Vice President, on the Supreme Court, serving as the Senate Majority Leader or just plain being the best-ever senator for New York and for all of us, we will be with you — as we work together for equality for all, and a better, safer, more peaceful world for everyone, not just the privileged few. Yes, we will. Thank you, Hillary.”

Feel free to take her campaign to task for their racist rhetoric while also bemoaning the misogyny she encountered along the trail.

Senator Obama: Just Say No to the Rich Republican Town Hall @ Democrats.com:

Senator Obama, we urge you to Just Say No to the Rich Republican Town Hall – and instead to hold the first debate in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans in an event controlled by We the People, not the Corporate Media.

Town Hall debates = millions in free publicity for John McCain.
