Shocker: women (and presumably people of color, GLBT folks, etc.) are underrepresented at the cineplex this summer season. Incidentally, this factoid was the cause of a fifteen-minute argument between LD and I last night. Apparently he thinks the onus is on us wimmins to demand more female-friendly fare through a national boycott. Cause, like, it’s not as though we aren’t already occupied with more pressing issues such as bodily autonomy, poverty, equal pay, etc….Silver lining is that it was the *only* time I wanted to kick him in the nuts yesterday, so that’s an improvement I guess. By way of CNN, contemporary war-themed movies are flopping at the box office. Stop/Loss, In the Valley of Elah, Redacted, The Kingdom, Rendition, Lions for Lambs, Home of the Brave, Grace is Gone - go rent ‘em. War Inc, go watch it. Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay…the jury’s still out.
